Cast
CARLO
Carlo is the coach of the under 10 Magpies. He is passionate, tubby and extroverted.
As a young man he had a promising football career which was ended by injury.
He is currently the owner of a successful Pizzeria and father of Tony, whom he is trying to coerce into sport. He is married but guiltily attracted to Sandy who is helping him with his fitness.
SANDY
Sandy is a hard working fitness coach whose gym is edging her out. She is trying to start up her own dance group but everything is going against her. Sandy is frustrated by her unsuccessful husband and worried about her daughter, Maddie, who is large for her age. She is conducting a flirtation with Carlo and is on the warpath against Liz whom she perceives as a stuck up snob.
LIZ
Well educated and well-off, Liz is a single mother who was married to an architect whom she adored but who died two years ago. She has chosen to keep this quiet in order to make a new start. She has moved her son Jamie to a new school and is consequently the new mum on the team. She is overprotective of her son who is afraid to go on sleepovers. She is lonely and desperate to make new friends.
NEIL
Neil is a very successful conductor who has only recently acknowledged the existence of his son, the talented “Becks”. Neil has been living in Europe, fraternising with the rich and famous for ten years. Now he has arrived in Australia to do a fundraiser for the Opera Ensemble, and to get to know his child. He knows nothing about soccer or parenting,
